Teacher leaders as teacher educators: recognising the ‘educator’ dimension of some teacher leaders’ practice

The functions of teacher leaders and educators, what they do, are critical in education. This article presents the seemingly unexamined concept that some leaders’ practice includes a educator dimension. Evidence supports this claim is provided by exploring interrelationship between leader using focused analysis literature findings from qualitative research. research investigated impact professional development programme for primary science leaders. Data were collected strategic-level informants, mentors interviews, questionnaires focus group. analysed to provide overview participants’ views requirements successful leadership illustrate how intertwined activities. considers implications recognising dimension asserts these extend beyond context Acknowledging contribution made ‘unrecognised’ educators enabling them contribute gain knowledge community has significant potential enrich education internationally, nationally locally.
